Em-Dash Replacer ("the Extension") does NOT collect, store, or transmit any personal or sensitive user data.

What the Extension Does

The Extension provides the following functionality:

  • Highlights em dashes, en dashes, and other specified characters on web pages you visit
  • Allows you to replace these characters in selected text
  • Stores your preferences (such as highlight colors and character settings) locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API
  • Provides a keyboard shortcut to copy selected text with dashes replaced

Data Collection

The Extension does NOT collect any data.

We do not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal information, browsing history, or user data of any kind.

Data Storage

All settings and preferences are stored locally on your device using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API. This data:

  • Never leaves your device - All data stays on your computer
  • Is not transmitted to any external servers - No network requests are made
  • Is not shared with the extension developer or any third parties - We cannot access your data
  • Is only accessible by the Extension on your browser - No other applications can access it

Permissions Used

The Extension requests the following permissions to function properly:

storage

Purpose: To save your preferences (highlight colors, enabled characters, etc.) locally on your device

Data stored: User settings and preferences only

contextMenus

Purpose: To add a right-click menu option for replacing dashes in selected text

Data accessed: Only the text you explicitly select and right-click on

activeTab

Purpose: To access the current tab's content when you actively use the extension

Data accessed: Only when you invoke the extension's features

scripting

Purpose: To inject the dash replacement functionality into web pages

Usage: Only processes text locally in your browser

host_permissions

Purpose: To automatically highlight dashes on specific websites

Sites: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot

Note: Even with these permissions, no data is collected or transmitted

All permissions are used solely for the functionality described above and do not involve collecting or transmitting any user data.

Third-Party Services

The Extension does not use any third-party services, including:

  • No analytics services (e.g., Google Analytics)
  • No tracking services
  • No advertising services
  • No external APIs or servers
  • No crash reporting services

Text Processing

When you use the Extension to replace characters:

  • The processing happens entirely within your browser
  • No text is sent to external servers or third parties
  • The processed text remains on your device
  • Text is only processed when you explicitly invoke the extension's features

Children's Privacy

The Extension does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Since we do not collect any data at all, the Extension is safe for users of all ages.

Data Security

Since the Extension does not collect, transmit, or store any data on external servers, there is no risk of data breaches or unauthorized access to your information. All functionality is isolated to your local browser environment.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in the Extension's functionality or legal requirements.
